چکیده

Workflow systems and object-oriented technology have undoubtedly been some of the most important domains of interest of information technology over the past decade. Both domains however, have largely evolved independently, and not much research can be found in which workflow modelling principles and concepts have been applied to OO systems development or vice versa. In this paper we show how the two domains can be integrated. By integrating both domains, business process modelling can benefit from the advantages of the object-oriented approach. On the other hand, a more process oriented approach to OO development would enhance the organisational fit of object-oriented information systems development. The architecture that results from this integration is a tier-based one with a separate tier for workflow aspects.

A Reference Architecture for Semantic Business Process Management Systems

Semantic Business Process Management (SBPM) enhances BPM with semantic technologies in order to increase the degree of automation in the BPM lifecycle and help in bridging the gap between the business and IT views on business processes. In this paper, we describe the architecture of an SBPM System (SBPMS) which supports the whole SBPM lifecycle by providing functionality for process modeling, p...

Making the Transition from OO Analysis to OO Design with the Unified Process

The current momentum for object oriented (OO) development in industry makes OO techniques worthy of attention. Information systems researchers and practitioners are increasingly using constructs such as use cases and class diagrams to define system requirements. A glaring weakness in the literature is the lack of useful guidelines and strategies for taking a relatively high level OO requirement...

Business Process Modeling and SOA: Bridging the gap

Business process modeling has gained increasing attention in the recent years. The objectives of business process modeling are numerous. These objectives include the need to document, understand, analyze, improve and automate a business process. While Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) can be defined as an architectural style whose goal is to achieve loose coupling among interacting software a...

Add Data into Business Process Verification: Bridging the Gap between Theory and Practice

The need to extend business process languages with the capability to model complex data objects along with the control flow perspective has lead to significant practical and theoretical advances in the field of Business Process Modeling (BPM). On the practical side, there are several suites for control flow and data modeling; nonetheless, when it comes to formal verification, the data perspecti...

A Layered Software Specification Architecture

Separation of concerns is a determining factor of the quality of object-oriented software development. Done well, it can provide substantial benefits such as additive rather than invasive change and improved adaptability, customizability, and reuse. In this paper we propose a software architecture that integrates concepts from business process modeling with concepts of object-oriented systems d...
